The Tennessee state flag was a hundred years in the making. Captain LeRoy Reeves, a soldier from the Third Regiment of the Tennessee Infantry designed the flag in the late 1890s. Three white stars in blue circle outlined in white represent the three regions of Tennessee. Two vertical stripes, a thin white stripe and a thicker blue one at the fly end break up the crimson field.

The Utah state flag is based on a 1860 design by the Daughters of the American Revolution. The DAR design had the arms of the state seal in white on a blue field. In 1913, the seal was changed to a full color design in a thin gold circle. The coat of arms shows a shield with a beehive between sego lilies, with the state motto “Industry” above, and the state name below. An eagle with war arrows in its talons is above the shield, and U.S. flags are either side.

The Washington state flag is unique for two reasons: it is the only flag with a green field, and it is the only flag with the image of an actual person. The state seal, George Washington’s likeness, is centered on the green field. 1889 appears at the bottom rim of the seal, this being the year the seal was created by Charles Talcott.
